PAINTING COMPETITION / CHALLENGE (NOVEMBER) RESULTS.
This month's challenge was completely different to previous months.
Members were invited to submit a painting with the theme of
AUTUMN COLOURS
There was no set image, just let your imagination take over and create something amazing!
A message from the judge, Richard Crabtree - With such an impressive array of subject and medium it has been very difficult to choose just three pictures. I very much enjoyed looking at all the entries , any of which could be given first place. Because they all have their different merits I decided to choose my first, second and third place based on composition, technique, use of colour ,texture and initial impact.
1. In first place is no. 12. This has a competent use of watercolour techniques and colour to create a very atmospheric and textured autumnal feel.
2. In second place is no.9.Good use of composition, texture and vibrant colour which has captured the theme autumn perfectly. This painting made me smile, it has also captured the joyful freedom of youth with the happy child and dog jumping in piles of leaves.
3. In third place is no. 5. What struck me about this painting was its strong drawing, vibrant colour, great composition and use of texture. It all works really well together.
I would be happy to put any of the entries on my wall and I think everyone should be proud of their paintings. Thank for asking me to demonstrate to your Art Society.
It has been a privilege to judge November's competition entries, I hope you all have a Happy Christmas and that next year allows all to meet again as normal,
Best wishes,
Richard Crabtree

The two photos George has chosen have a Mediterranean theme. The first is the delightful Italianate Garden at Godinton House. The second is a street in the old town of Cadeques on the Costa Brava.
